Custom Residential Elevator Controller Options

Looking at the Model Code For Residential Controllers sheet, the very first consideration when building or selecting a Residential Elevator Controller is the driving machine type.

The Residential Controller first option refers to the driving machine type and falls into one of three selections.

A hydraulic controller, whether it be direct plunger or roped hydraulic type, would be a Hydro "R".

All other machines types that are across the line start, select Drum "E" or those with Variable Frequency Drives, select VVVF Drive "V".
Note: Variable Frequency Drives make for a very smooth ride compared to across the line start.

Next we look at voltage. This is the line voltage available to power the controller.
With Hydro. and Across the Line Start the drive motor will need to match the voltage and Phase.
Phase. For the most part this will be Single. Exception would be rare.
Number of stops. Minimum of 2. Note: ANSI code limits the travel to 50 feet.
Interlocks:
Select "EL" for electric interlocks. (24 VDC coils) Or select "GL" for G.A.L. "N" locks.

Level 3 Options :
AL. Arrival lights. An arrival light is an indicator adjacent to the hall call button to let the awaiting passenger know that car has arrived at the landing. Not really useful with a lighted call button.

CH. Car Here Lights. Same as arrival light except they don't time out. Also not really useful with a lighted call button.

DA. Direction Arrow with Passing Gong. One ding for up and two dings for down.

HD. Power Swing Hoistway Doors. Benchmark

PD. Power Car Gate. Ask me about this nonproprietary operator. EZ Door Operator

PG. Power Car Gate. Porta KIS100. This one is proprietary.

PC. Position Indicator in car.

PH. Position Indicator in hall. May be present at any or all landings.

RC. Retiring Cam. Used only on mechanical interlocks. Required in some states.

OT. Overrun Timer. AKA Low Oil Timer. (Standard on hydraulic units).

IN. Car Top Inspection. This is a bank of switches mounted to the car top in order to operate the motion from the car top.

VN. Vein Selector. The landing control system may be comprised of Permanent Magnet Inductor Switches, aka vein switches.

SF. Short Floor. In some cases there are two landings just inches from one another. This requires a special landing control setup.

HL. Home Landing. This feature returns the elevator to a designated landing after a prescribed time.

The single big advantage to a VCS controller is that the components are nonproprietary. The programmable logic controller is an off the shelf item as is all of the components and you will be provided the code file for your elevator controller. No other controller manufacturer does this for their customers. Proprietary board controllers have well -known issues.
